Sensible suggestion - switch off UNUSED office kit over Xmas

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all,

With Xmas coming, there's a call for office workers to minimise wasted energy by ensuring that unused items, such as PC's printers, etc are fully turned off (and not left on standby) over the Xmas period.

see article here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6183259.stm

And as we know, every little helps....

regards

Tim

Edit: Changed title as previous one didn't sound right !

I quite agree - it's a conundrum....

On the other hand, if there's no life on our planet (due to: climate change, ice sheets melting, water levels rising, etc etc) what's the point of finding life elsewhere.....!

And I'm sure any ET's can wait .....after all, SETI has been going for over 7 years, and nothings been found yet, so I dare say a week or two won't make much difference - Arecibo will still be "listening" over the hols, so it just means that maybe we find ET two weeks later...

regards

Tim

Too right I'll keep it going.
The xmas break is the only time I lose hosts because some of our sites insist on shutting off the power over the break but at the same time I get to run seti 24/7 on some hosts that normally don't run during office hours.

Top result for me
This is the 1st xmas break I can remember where I haven't lost any machines.
I had 1 site that shutdown for 2 days (losing 4 macines)  but has now come back up
And to cap it all I've even got 2 brand spanking new 2.00GHz Xeon 5130s to add to the list
