Einstein@Home STATUS

[Last update: Mon Jan  1 18:40:12 UTC 2007]

Einstein@Home will be offline until further notice.

The main file server has failed once again.  At this time we do not know
how serious the problem is.  The project may be down for a couple of days
until a temporary replacement fileserver can be put in place.

More news will be posted here as it becomes available.

Thank you,
 David Hammer

I am still working to get the replacement fileserver in place.  I might be
able to start E@H by  6:04:39 Jan 4 UTC.

Einstein is now back up again (on temporary servers) - make sure that your account hasn't been hit by the 168 hour curse - if it has, hit "Update" to clear it.

My work machine was hit by the curse on the 28th Dec. I hope it will clear now that Einstein is working again :o
Otherwise it will be next Monday when I can clear it, not that I'm too sad as it has Simap and WCG to carry on with.

I don't have that problem with the latest test release of BOINC

Einstein has dropped again - so far no news.  If you're leaving your machine(s) unattended this weekend, make sure you have a backup project.

The replacement fileserver is having the same stability problems that the
old fileservers had.  I am going to replace the raid controllers with some
from a different company and see if that helps.

Seems poor David is always working weekends, more than can be said for many projects.  Let's wish him luck.

The new (temporary) server is up and running - let's keep our fingers crossed.

Einstein is not actually down, but strugglingly under a very heavy work load.

This has come about as the S5R1 run is coming to an end, only short work units are available.  These are being allocated almost as soon as they are produced (oldest work unit unsent is around a minute).  This means that instead of getting work units which match your resident data file, a new data file to match your newly allocated units has to be sent.  The result of this is that the server is currently having to do about 6 times as much work.

Estimates for the end of the S5R1 run are difficult in view of the recent hardware hiccups, but range from 3 to 10 days.  The current problems will then be gone with the start of S5R2.

All we can do is be patient and continue supporting this excellent project, and, who knows, it may be a member of our team who will be able to claim the distinction of crunching the very last S5R1 unit, or the first from S5R2.
