Being a cheapo skinflint I haven't bothered with any other newsgroup providers other than the free ones provided by Freeserve/wanadoo. They had what I wanted (not interested in binaries and pervy stuff) - now, without telling me, they've gorn and stopped it!
Can't get my Charmed, Kate Bush or alt.local.North-Wales fixes any more!
Anyone got any recommendations?

Er is it? I'm so far behing this technology thingy that my accounting program was written in 1990 (yes DOS based) - I'm still using it cos it works!
If it ain't broke - don't fix it!

Have a look at News Individual Net. It's not free but, IMHO, it is the best Usenet service there is. I've been using it since it was News.CIS.DFN.DE and I've never had any problems. The Admins are really helpful if you have any problems or want a newsgroup adding and it's binary and pervy stuff free.
You could also try Google Groups
