You're right I suppose (work units not work unit's ).

Though I thought if you had a plural acronym ( Power Supply Units = PSU's or PSUs for instance) it looked more correct to have the apostrophy in rather than out.

Who want to contribute the worst use of an apostrophy/comma/other then? New thread required!

http://www.apostrophe.fsnet.co.uk/
3. Apostrophes are NEVER ever used to denote plurals!  Common examples of such abuse (all seen in real life!) are:
Banana's for sale which of course should read Bananas for sale
Menu's printed to order which should read Menus printed to order
MOT's at this garage which should read MOTs at this garage

One in todays paper. Someone mistook a comma for a 1. £4,100 became £41100. He got 2 years in jail for spending money that he knew wasn't his!

I'm as guilty as the next man for writing WU apostrophe s...

So, I've just added a forum "word filter" that changes any "WU apostrophe s" to "WUs"..... 8)

Now, no-one can see the errors I made

Errr...don't think it's a problem really:
'the WU 's credits are higher than usual'
but this can be said as:

'the WU credits are higher than usual'

and likewise:
'the WU 's very long!'
In this case, you'd have to write:

'the WU is very long!'

Nope - that didn't work on 1st two - Temujin keeps the prize for figuring out how to over-ride the filter.... :D

And all this started because some plonker broke the thread by missing out his bb code   and now we end up with an English grammar and punctuation lesson.

Please note that some of us go to great lengths and have spent many years achieving a high level of ignorance and shall continue to make mistakes until they introduce on the spot fines, so there.  :P   :withstupid:

So how would you pronounce WU apostrophy s

Woos? Wuss?

It's one of them there acronyms you can pronounce.

Then it becomes wusses or woozes.

"I did several wusses"
"I did several woozes"

Wusses definately sounds wrong!

[edit] Who's messing? I said w o o s and w u s s not wot's up there!

The swear word filter's been in place since day one.

Didn't want young heads to be turned....after all, this is a family-friendly forum - even if all we do all day is BOINC (sic).
