New project looking for testers.
http://cosmos.astro.uiuc.edu/cosmohome/
From newsfeed -
June 7, 2007 Large-Scale Test and Limited Registration
Next week, we will be conducting a larger-scale test (greater than 50,000 workunits) of the project in order to see how it holds up under greater stress. It is vital that we test as many architectures as we can, so if you would like to participate in testing, send me an email at [skruger2 at uiuc dot edu] some time before Monday.

Needed a reason to bring back the 'kiss of Death' avatar so I've emailed!

Nice find Ram Raider, email sent but don't know if I can tear myself away from ABC at the mo Lol
Right, got the invitation code back and are crunching WU's.

Team created but there's no 'Initiate transfer'.
Best watch this one as it's downloaded 100 WUs. Luckily they're only between 7 and 18 seconds but it seems to have made this computer really sluggish. Possbly because I've all ready got over a page full of 'Upload pendings!'
I'll do these 100 and have a little break! (Addicted to ABC at the moment!)

I finally got my invitation email back so I've joined you. I've downloaded a few work units but they are still waiting their turn to crunch.
By the way, I usually find out about new projects just by browsing the Boinc Synergy and Boincstats forums.
If you want to a list of BOINC projects, Tutta55 from the Belgian BOINC team maintains a comprehensive list at

I can`t say I like the WUs I`m getting. Mine are taking between 12 and 15 seconds to complete. The 200 a day download limit won`t go very far at this rate.
Hope they give us some longer ones next week.
I just checked the site and they have
suspended registration for the time being. I just got in in time!

June 8, 2007 Project Down
The project will be down for a while until we can make the necessary upgrades to our server and application. We will not be creating any more WUs until the test next week.
June 8, 2007 No More Invitations for Now
Thanks to everybody for such a tremendous showing of support for testing Cosmology@Home. I've had more than enough requests to help with testing at this point, so for now, registration is closed again.
Thanks again for all of those who volunteered to help test our project!

Hi all who have signed up to this project, is it my machines or the Boinc Manager or the WU's that are being sent, because the Boinc Manager is very slow and takes for ever to respond. Its almost like it will only allow you to work with the manager every 10 seconds or so?
I have also noted that although the WU's are short there seems to be 3 or 4 files to upload per WU? My machine was crunching faster than it can upload the results?
Any suggestions

That's exactly what happened with mine this morning. I think you'll just have to leave it to it - all gets done eventually. Hopefully, as a BETA project, this will have been addressed before the next batch is released.

June 11, 2007 New Test WUs Available
New test WUs are available, although these are considerably different than the last set of test WUs. Whereas previous WUs ran for about 15-30 seconds, these should run for about an hour. We are making a relatively small batch of WUs to see how well these work.

Got 11 of the damn things! Supposed to run for around an hour - 2 are up to 1.5 hours. Bit of a pain not being able to see a progress percentage.
But at least they're quorums of 1 so you should get what you claim.
[edit] They're taking around 1.5 or 2.5 hours each on this PC.

The admin is supposed to be sorting out the credit level this week. Hope he cranks it up a bit, it`s not exactly generous is it?
Average time per WU is around 20 minutes. Still no sign of the XML stats export which was supposed to have been sorted out last week. I left him a message today about it but I suppose he`ll be too busy celebrating the 4th of July.
At least we`ve got some WUs to crunch. Keep up the good work guys.

I get that sometimes. Update sometimes does it.
What I do is make sure that I haven't got any left (if you haven't managed to get any yet you'll be OK on that!) then 'reset project' . If that doesn't work, a manager shutdown/restart normally sorts it. This is the only project I have to keep an eye on for this problem. I've got ABC set at 5% just in case!

8/21/07 @ 5:11 PM CST - Post Rating and Work Generation
I've disabled post ratings since certain users are childishly down-rating posts made by people they don't like. Besides, does anybody really consider post ratings anyway?
Also, no more new work will be generated until the pending work count goes down. Users may find that work is hard to come by, but this will be a temporary roadblock.

The suspension of work seems crazy to me with a fixed credit scheme.
Why not have a quorum of 1, then the backlog will go instantly?

Just found this on Scottish Boinc Team site:-
Cosmology on the other hand is engaged in a real battle with UBT: The difference was about 4500 last time I checked which is less than half a days crunching at current rates. Which is why I'm rating it as a more urgent priority.
Anyway with the founders' crunch power climbing it'll be easier to juggle our priorities.

There is an undefined problem with the Cosmo server. All new completed WUs are going straight to "pending", and it seems that there are no more WUs downloading at the moment
Cosmology upload issues
Posted: Wed Jan 30, 2008 12:14 am
by UBT - Timbo
Hi all,
I've had issues uploading completed WUs to Cosmology, since their URL change.
Seems there's been some issues at Cosmology.
See
here
Posted 24 Jan 2008 19:01:13 UTC
Short story: I'm cancelling every WU and granting every "in progress", "error", or "successful" result credit.
Long story: the old URL is associated with every WU that was released in the 2.04 era, so I have to clear out *all* of them in order for the new results. People are going to get a gigantic amount of credit when this is all done, and I will be making a bunch of new WUs for crunching and things should *finally* be back to normal.
____________
Scott Kruger
Project Administrator, Cosmology@Home
So, if you have any Cosmology WUs and they aren't uploading, just detach and use the new URL to re-attach:

Cosmology WUs are good value for your money these days.

I think Scott, (Cosmology admin) is winding us all up.
This project, until recently, has had one of the best credit levels available.
Now, I think it is probably worse than WCG.
I hate to say this, but if you are looking for maximum credit, detach from Cosmology until such time that their admins take a serious look at the real world!
Posted: Sat Aug 09, 2008 1:18 am

You should read the message boards.
The "reason" for the high credits before were because sooo many failed, and the high credits were to make up for it.
Now that it work as it should (err what?) the credits are at a proper level, yeah 70 credits for 9 hours work.
Some peep over there is ranting about 150,000 - 180,000 of lost credits (due to pending credit that they won't get due to the application changing)
Good way to Kill your project Scott....

There are some Cosmology WUs available at the moment if anyone is interested.
They are normally worth 140 credits each, regardless of length, and take between 2 hours and 6 hours to complete.
On average, I guess a 4 hour completion time is about right.

After a long absence, Cosmo is finally up and running, with plenty of work available.

From their front page
April 28, 2009
A total of 5000 credits have been added to profiles of all active Csomo@home users. This is meant for expired/failed WUs due to project down-time and to compensate for the earlier low credit per WU payment for resource intensive CAMB 2.16 WUs. Also, the time bound for these new WUs has been incresaed from 10 days to 15 days which should be enough to complete crunching them even on machines ~5 years old

It seems that everyone has been given 5000 credits, even zero rated crunchers.

But not the team, we have 100+ cosmo members who each received 5000 credits but the team score hasn't seen any of it

Thanks for the info John.
Strange about it not affecting team credits though.
