WCGs mission is to create the largest public computing grid benefiting humanity. You can choose from various work units to crunch: Fight AIDS, cure Cancer or support the Human Proteome Folding projects amongst many. (Previously supported by IBM).
Volunteers, we'll be doing server maintenance on Thursday, Sept 10 beginning at 14:00 UTC.
We will not be uploading and downloading work units during the maintenance window (~24 hrs), but the website will remain accessible during this time. https://ibm.co/3h8SDlh
4pm: Update 1: We have begun our server maintenance, and it's expected to last approximately 24 hours. Our website and forum should remain up during this time.
Update 2: While our server maintenance is going on, our tech team has decided to do another update that will take down our website/forum for approximately 30 minutes. This will save us from having another planned outage in the near future.
There seems to be quite a few beta SCC tasks atm, when I last checked I had 35 pages (520 tasks) sitting pending verification so I guess these will continue after the outage.
the smaller ones don't seem to have much work at the moment
I tend to keep HSTB and BETA projects always selected as these tasks are not very frequent, so if you're after a given badge better to grab them when you can.
The other projects normally tend to give out constant work; given any current project circumstances.
Every month WCG releases a news article for each project where they give you an exact up to date on what's happening with the project, including availability of tasks.
GPU version: The World Community Grid development team is starting to create work units for initial alpha testing. Their current issue is creating work units that can run on both CPU and GPU, rather than needing to create two different versions, which would add complexity to the project. The next step within IBM will be a security review of the new version. The work is ongoing and there's currently no estimate for when it will be completed.
We are doing a file system check on our servers on Wednesday, September 16, beginning at 17:00 UTC.
We will be conducting a file system check on our servers on Wednesday, September 16, beginning at 17:00 UTC. We anticipate that the work will take approximately 6 hours.
