A link back to the main site might be a good idea for as long as we're on Dazza's site

If you hover over the banner it says "Shortcut to index.php" so the banner just takes you to the forum index.

It works here and takes me back to UBT home page, would be better if it went to a new page when I clicked it

When I hover it says UK BOINC TEAM FORUM INDEX

Sorry - my fault again.
This has now been fixed for both styles.
My IE, for whatever reason, does not show image tags but I have changed these as well.

Should work just fine now.

Is there any way you can pre-set the post text colour rather than keep having to fiddle with the posting page?

As you can see I quite like the indigo, the violet is a bit too pale.

I don't think it is anything we can set in our profiles, I have also checked all the hundreds of add-ons and can find nothing in there what can allow users to do that

It might be an idea to post a sticky (terminology?) at the top of the forum to inform everyone if / when the forum has been restored and what time the backup point was so they can repost their msgs, assuming they can remember them.

with any luck if Dazza does another update he will back up the forum 1st so that all messages will be saved and none will go missing then, good idea though.

3 changes made.
Anonymous posts to the help bit now need a user to enter a name.
Posts should show as Today/Yesterday instead of the date. Makes it easier to see when something was posted.
After clicking submit on a posting page the button should change to sending to try and stop double posts.

All recommended by Halifax -- Lad.

Any problems then let me know

I know you're all going to laugh at me now.

Is there any way to make the forum recognise two spaces after a full stop because atm it's just one and it is doing my head in.
I type in English, two spaces after a full stop, not American, one space.

Insomnia.
If I attempt to go to bed before 03:30 I lie tossing and turning. Once I'm asleep I'm out for 10+ hours but it's the getting to sleep which is the problem. My Dr. has put me on anti-depressants because I was getting a bit dependant on sleeping tablets.

Still it's not like I've got a dead responsible job.
I just run around after my 79yr old mum doing her cleaning & shopping and taking her to various medical appointments.
It's all good fun

Cheerleaders section

Post by UBT - Rick Horn »

Might I suggest a special section of the forum reserved for cheerleaders, preferably with sticky properties, to post announcements etc. for their own individual projects.

Don't think its really needed, the announcements section is great for this already, in danger of having too many sections for members to look at. If it was subject matter that we don't already have a place for it to go, I would say yes, but in this instance I think we already have it covered

I was thinking of a specific place to put in updates on how we're doing during an event. I suppose they could be put in the 'projects' section but I'd prefer them grouped together for reference.

Forum section "merger" proposal

Post by UBT - Timbo »

Hi all,

Personally, I can see some justification for creating one or two new sections.

However, I'm loathe to increase the total number of sections within the forum.....as sometimes, it's tricky trying to find a specific post as it is now - (even more difficult if there are more sections).

You know it's there "somewhere" but with more sections than I would care to "shake a stick at", I think we need to ensure that the sections are easy to manage and easy to maintain "on topic"....

So:

I propose to merge:

- the "Team News" and "Announcements" sections - as most posts could easily "fit" with either sections - amd besides any "Announcement" is usually "Team news" and both sections have a relatively low number of posts in each.

- the "Hardware", "Software" and "Gaming" sections, as each section has few posts.....and said topics can be considered as one mostly.... 8)

This will then reduce the number of sections in these two areas of the forum from 13 down to 10, which is far more manageable.

Then we have "space" for perhaps one or two NEW sections.....

For's and against's please?

regards

Tim

For merging all of those, then having a 'team progess' type forum for crunches, notes on progress for individual projects in one place, as per Mike's idea

Rosetta into 'other BOINC projects'. There have been no posts in the Rosetta section since October.

Also 'FOR' everything else mentioned.

Don't agree one bit with that

General BOINC is for any updates on BOINC etc etc
BOINC Issues for people having trouble with BOINC
Optimised Clients well a one stop shop to see whats available, would not like to be someone searching all the project forums for this info

Mr Angry Shopper.
Dear Mr Angry Shopper,

Thank you for writing to us and providing us with your opinion concerning the changes we have made to the Forum.

We undertook some highly extensive market research, using Fast Fourier Statistical and Environmental techniques, to establish the need and justification for continuing with some of the services we provided and it was found, after a laborious and time-consuming analysis carried out by Messrs Hook, Line and Sinker (est. 1835, just after Time Team finished), that some minor changes to the breadth and focus of the Forum were required to ensure that our on-going provision of facilities were kept up to date and in accordance with Government Health and Safety advice, and pertaining to the recent adjudication at the High Court in the case of Queen vs. Bodgit and Screwup.

To that end, our Focus Group has determined that certain sections must be surgically grafted onto other less used sections, so as to improve the visibility of said under-used resources and to provide a faster access to the more frequently frequented sections.

By carrying out this revision, we are sure that, despite a few instances where some members may feel less agreeable to the changes, that in time, all members will benefit greatly from the more concise but still extensive facilities offered, while at the same time allowing management to have more time off to spend on a jolly down at the seaside.

We thank you for expressing your considered opinion and we would cordially invite you to consider not wasting any more of our time with your drivel.

Yours sincerely,
Col. Huge Dangly-Appendage (Mrs).
